Tuscana Resort Offers Convenience, Economy For Orlando Vacationers
By Alex Augunas
Contributing Writer
We had carefully planned for a family summer vacation to Orlando and Disney with children and grandchildren, this past June. We met all the challenges — coordinating a group of twelve, finding accommodations where we could be close together yet able to go separate ways, if folks wanted to. It all went very well, actually, but we forgot a piece of the plan.
My wife and I wanted to spend two extra days for a little R & R before the children arrived but forgot to make this arrangement. Needless to say, we ran up against the No Vacancy sign at just about all our lodging searches, save one. That’s when we came upon the Tuscana Resort, an attractive property off by itself at the end of a winding road, about 10 minutes away from Disney and most other Orlando attractions.
Actually, Tuscana is a condo resort that rents out spacious 2 and 3 bedroom suites that are larger, more comfortable, and more affordably priced than what you would pay for a much smaller hotel rooms throughout Disney and other hotel properties. All suites come with a full kitchen and dining room, sitting area, TVs in each bedroom, DVD Player and Internet, screened porch and washer/dryers in all units.
Located just off I-4 at exit 58, the main highway around Orlando, Tuscana is part of the Champions Gate complex that includes restaurants, a supermarket and shopping for all your needs while on vacation. It’s tucked away via a right turn just off exit 58. A good landmark (always helpful) is Chili’s Restaurant, which sits on the road to the property.
Tuscana Resort is a Mediterranean-inspired, oasis garden complex of almost 300 condo units. Separate buildings reach only 4 floors and have most of the amenities of a larger resort. These include elevators, ample parking, a free shuttle to Disney World, a centrally located clubhouse, an on-site convenience store, an outdoor pool, a kids pool, a small movie theatre, and a casual cafe and tiki bar.
The bar, ably run by a transplanted Brit, a friendly fellow named David who keeps the place humming, features everything from tropical drinks to late-seating breakfast, lunch, and dinner with entrees that include, of course, a tasty fish and chips dish.
In the front office, Linda Randolph heads a staff of professional people there to serve guests and their every need. Linda would like readers to know of the unique opportunities available in summer, or off-season, for weekend getaways or longer, or for folks looking to escape winter for even a month or more. Many owners head north for the summer, some even for six or more months, which leaves units available for those of us who either prefer or need to travel during that time.
Starting this coming fall, readers looking for a quick getaway, say a long weekend or more, the Resort has some great rates starting at $89 or $99 per night, excluding Thanksgiving and Christmas. If you factor in sharing with friends or family, the rate is almost too good to be true.
Things get somewhat hectic after the New Year but Linda quoted rates starting at $139 per night and even less for visitors looking for longer stays. They continue to offer a 20% senior discount based on availability. These prices should hold until year’s end. All things considered, if you don’t mind staying inland, about an hour and a half drive to either the Gulf of Mexico or east to the Atlantic, then Tuscana could be just the ticket for you and your family, or groups of friends.
During our two-day stay we met some people there with families visiting Universal and Disney. They were really happy to be not only so close to the parks but to have saved so much money by having a full condo for less than what they would have paid for a room at some of the resort properties. It’s something to think about if a summer or winter getaway is in your own travel plans.
Visit Tuscana Resort at www.tuscana.net for a look at the resort, or call 407-787-4808 where representatives are waiting to answer all your questions. The welcome sign is out for all you snowbirds!
